Vitasoy vs St Ali
Comments (9) | Friday, July 30, 2010
This funky invitation arrived in my inbox and it sounded like a fantastic event!
There were so many things that made me squeal with excitement:
- St Ali; I've never been but heard amazing things. I had experienced Outpost (St.Ali's sister cafe) as it was near my old work
- Cocktails by Der Raum; I have been there once with Katie and it was such a fantastic venue for cocktails. Bottles hanging from ropes from the ceiling, cocktails served in paper bags, syringes, and other funky ways.
- Desserts by Philipa Sibley; seeing her make that caramel parfait glace with salted peanut caramel and milk chocolate mousse on Masterchef make me drooooool. *sigh* if only I had an ice cream maker, I would attempt i.
- Circus acts also had me thinking of how amazing this night would be. And being able to take home part of a graffiti soy milk wall had me intrigued.
Lighting inside was very dark, with DJs pumping out tunes whilst the crowd mingled. The other bloggers got some pretty amazing shots of the food and cocktails, their links are listed below for you to check out AFTER you have finished reading my post!
All fingerfood and cocktails served included the Organic Vitasoy, from the chicken wings, to the amazing desserts.
At the end of the night, the grafitti wall was dismantled and we could all take home a slab. It was a bit of a challenge to get the first slab out, but once they managed, we wondered on home with 2 slabs of Organic Vitasoy!
A souvenir from the night.

The Grand Prix 2010
Comments (5) | Saturday, May 15, 2010
If you went to the Grand Prix, chances are, you probably didn’t see any of my work on display, unless you were near the track marshal's tent, or in the CAMS (Confederation of Australian Motor Sport) corporate tent.
It was about 3 weeks on intense work, with the last week not sitting down at all unless it was 5 minutes for lunch. Working weekends and staying back late, I thought I’d collapse by the time it came to the big event.
As a nice little bonus for all of our hard work, my boss sent my work colleague, his lovely daughters and I along to enjoy the first day of the Grand Prix in the corporate tent. Since we were doing a lot of work for CAMS they were nice enough to issue my boss with passes for all 4 days of the event. I had never been to the Grand Prix before, or been treated corporate style; so I was keen to see if I could food blog about it as well!

I had never been to the Grand Prix before, or been treated corporate style; so I was keen to see if I could food blog about it as well!
My day began with a bit of sleep in, which seemed like bliss after the 3 weeks of madness that had just finished. We caught the tram down and began out epic trek down to find out tent. After walking around for a bit, we had realised we walked too far, and in the hot sun we were all working up a bit of a sweat. We all wore long pants and closed toe shoes in the hope we might get a tour of the pits. This turned out to be a bad idea as it was so hot, and we weren’t lucky enough to get a tour… grrr.
By the time we reached our tent, the kind guy manning the bar showed us the drinks on offer, and suggested perhaps a soft drink or a water to help us cool down. I was in the mood for one thing only at that point; “I’ll have a James Boags please!!”.
After a short while, and a speaker attempting to make a speech as F1s kept screaming on by, we were served lunch. I managed to snap all the food before it got touched. I wasn’t so luckily with dessert though.
A nice, tasty selection of cold meats; ham, turkey, chicken and roast beef. Nice tasty salads; bean and tomato, potato. An onion tart and fresh rolls.
We went for a walk around the track and came back to find that dessert had been served! There wasn’t much left for us though. We had stopped for ice-cream due to the heat, and I had a callipo gelati in Little Italy. I never knew callipo did gelati. It was alright, not as good as the original style callipos though.
Some of the food stalls for the general public.
Dessert was a coffee and ricotta cake, cinnamon, apple and rhubarb pies, as well as crackers and cheese. I had the cinnamon, apple and rhubarb pie. Then about an hour later I went to get a cup of tea and found they had restocked the dessert… so I had another one!
It came to about 5pm when the RAAF jets were flying above, when a waitress comes to us with a tray full of hot delicious pastries. I was hoping she would return with more, but she did not. I had a vegetable pastie and an arancini ball. Both were awesome, hence why I wanted her to bring me more!!
F1 simulator in our corporate tent.
Overall a fantastic day. I never had an interest in motor sport until working on stuff for CAMS. However, I doubt I would go to the Grand Prix again, unless it was corporate style so I could keep cool in the shade, fed and watered.

Christmas Round Up 2009
Comments (19) | Sunday, December 27, 2009
Christmas tree I made with Lindt baubles for my Christmas party with my friends.
And so that was Christmas.
And what did you do?
This is my round up of quite possibly, the best Christmas ever.
The Christmas party with my friends:
We started with some dips and these avocado and cherry tomato salsa wonton cases. It was a great way to get the lunch started as everyone started to arrive.
We kept things fairly simple with a BBQ. I made Bill Granger's sticky chicken wings, and we got some gourmet sausages and rissoles from Woolworths. Mum helped me out and made her amazing potato salad, Alana graciously made her famous crunchy Asian noodle salad, and I made a green salad with tomato, onion, capsicum and mango.
Even though we were all extremely full and falling asleep at the table, we piled on the dessert. Fresh fruit and white christmas mud cakes.
Everyone left with a noodle box containing an ultimate chocolate pudding...yum!
Christmas Eve - Carols by Candlelight, Sidney Myer Music Bowl
It was my first Christmas eve away from my family, but due to "The Great Flood of '09", I left carols early and ended up seeing my family.
It had been spitting all day, and when we arrived at carols it had cleared up. We settled in, unpacked everything, then the massive down pour hit! It was a case of wet undies all around. Luckily my dad gave me a tarp to take, and we all hid under there for most of the night.
It was much more fun than watching it on TV. I made candy cane cookies and some savory muffins... there would have been photos but it was a bit hard when it was raining!
Christmas Day - Grandma's House
Whenever my Grandma hosts Christmas, she puts on an epic feast. We started with lobster and king prawns.... deeeelicious!
Ham and turkey, both cooked to perfection. Her version of a Greek salad, with capsicum cut into festive shapes, and a yule log made by my uncle!
We also saw a lizard when someone took out the rubbish.
We also had a mini fire when a candle caught alight to some decorations. All my Dad could do to fix this fire problem was to shout "Fire! Fire! Fire!" .... then my uncle promptly went to blow out said fire... thanks Dad... I know I can count on you when the house is burning down!
Miscellaneous Christmas Shenanigans
I got a bit creative helping mum make Pepparkaton (Swedish gingerbread).
The gingerbread house came down, and became a flat pack house. We are still eating it, and it's delicious!
Some of my loot! It was very food related which I loved! Thanks everyone!!!
(Like that plainbow road scarf an luma crochet?? It was made by an amazing girl I've never met, but will meet some day soon. Check out her Etsy store: http://www.etsy.com/shop/sunshineravioli)
Hope you all had a fantastic Christmas and are enjoying all the leftovers!

The above picture demonstrates the cells. There was a punishment cell, which was a small room with no windows, so it was just pitch black. I couldn't step in the first time. Then I tried to grow some balls and be a man and try to step in again; I lasted all of two seconds and ran out! It was too spooky.
Below is my favorite picture of the day:
Below is some photos taken from inside and around the haunted post office. You can definitely sense a presence when you are inside the post office.
A gorgeous tree needed it's photo taken.
I thought I'd end on something food related; ye olde kitchen!

Photo Journal: Salamanca Markets
Comments (9) | Thursday, November 12, 2009
The Salamanca markets run every Saturday from 9am - 3pm, just outside Hobart. It is a HUGE market that houses lots of food, crafts (mainly wood work), and a variety of fun stuff.
Lots of local produce, including fruit, beverages, gourmet sauces and freshly baked goods.
Lots of food stalls around the markets.
Lots of different crafts, and funky things to buy.
4 BBQs of sausages cooking away. I have never seen so much sausage in all my life!
The best busker I've seen in a long time. If you are ever down there, check him out; skinny white man that sounds like Louis Armstrong!
Pretty poppy flowers, and gorgeous terracotta roses.
For more information on the Salamanca markets, or stall holders, check out their website: http://www.salamanca.com.au/
My tip; go early to avoid the afternoon crowds!

Photo Journal: Hobart & Surrounds

I debated if I could post a non-food related post on my food blog... then I thought... "Stuff it. It's my blog, I can do whatever the frick I want!" So with that in mind; I give you some miscallenous shots of my recent trip to Hobart. The food posts will come, and so will a gorgeous photo journal of my trip to Port Arthur.
Excuse the small map. It was done in iPhoto... I could have done the connecting lines but you wouldn't be able to read anything!
My home for 5 nights was at the Wyndham Resort on Seven Mile Beach; 2 bedrooms (complete with electric blankets), 1 kitchen with laundry facilities, 1 bathroom, lounge, outdoor dining area.
We had 1 pool, 2 spas, 2 detox boxes (one wasn't working, and I didn't feel very detoxed after 30 minutes in the one that was working), a games room, playground, massive chess set, barbecues, and you could even hire bikes, fishing rods and golf clubs.
Around the resort.
Tasmania was every bit as gorgeous as everyone said it would be. With rolling green hills, and bursts of floral colour on the roadside where ever you drive; it is really a picturesque part of Australia.
Salamanca was probably my favorite place in Hobart. The markets on Saturday were great, I will be following up with a post just on them soon! Lots of great food finds down there too.
I found a giant wall of ramen.
Some of the cute and quirky signs I found along the way.
This was Dootown. Every house had a cute name like; Love Me Doo, Doo Mee, Dr. Doo Little, Doo Try It, Just Doo It..... you get the picture.... even the cafe at the blowhole had a doo-name.
Taken on my last day, when it finally started raining, I saw these on a boat and couldn't help but sing, 99 luft balloons!
Stay tuned for my Tazzie food adventures, and more photo journals. I hope you enjoyed this one.
Have you been to Tazzie? What was your favorite site or food place?
